Intro:
As I watched Fresh, I had many thoughts, especially regarding food's path from farm to table, a path many of us hardly consider. The film shows viewers each step and what they do, which makes some uncomfortable, as well as the moral issues we compound with our perception of food. The more I thought, the more I felt, deeply, about how completely disconnected we are from the things that sustain us: our food.
Purpose and Audience:
Fresh serves as a call to those unaware or indifferent to the agricultural and corporate practices shaping their dietary landscapes. It’s aimed not only at food enthusiasts and environmentalists but at anyone who eats and cares about their health, making its message both universal and urgent.
The film Fresh is intended for those who do not know about the agricultural and corporate processes that create their food systems.
It is not just for food enthusiasts but also environmentalists.
Fresh acknowledges and engages those of us who eat, and care about our health, and it shows the urgency for change.
Tone and Impact:
The film tone has a cautious tone which effectively addresses the realities of industrial farming with stories about farmers pushing to change the way of farming.
This approach not only educates but empowers, leaving viewers inspired rather than overwhelmed. I found myself particularly moved by the juxtaposition of grim factory scenes against the vibrant, life-affirming images of organic farms. This approach educates the viewer so that you see the truth of farming and the demand they have.
I was shocked by the contrasting scenes in the non-agriculture vs images of life on organic farms.
Standout Moments
A couple of scenes captured my attention and are still in my mind. I was shocked and impressed by the overcrowded livestock conditions. It highlighted one of the significant messages of the film: when one of the farmers said “We're not just growing vegetables here, we're growing futures”. This shows the importance of agriculture, which is growing fast and affecting the future. It is sad to see how much pesticides are used and how harmful it is to the crops and the animals. Also, it highlights the need to rethink where our food comes from and how it's grown.
Reflections and Feelings
Watching Fresh made me think a lot more about our agriculture. It created a combination of guilt, and hope.
Guilt: if all of us buy exactly what we need and do not waste a lot of food it will make the farmers feel less demand which causes less pesticides to be used. Also, every food product that is purchased is a human decision. Some of the products that we purchase we don't need and end up throwing away.
Hope: shows us there is still a possibility for change.
Opinion on the Film:
The film is a very important documentary because it helps us see the reality of our food as well as motivational due to the hope that farmers give. Even though it exposes the food production industry. Throughout the film, each farmer shows us the issue and how they can overcome it “It's not just about organic farming; it's about cultivating a healthier future for all of us” This quote is very important because it communicates the power of all of us and how to create a sustainable future to create a balanced agriculture which educates the issues these farmers have but the hope they farmers give towards the end.
Conclusion:
Fresh is more than a documentary; it shows us why we need to change not just for personal change but also for social change. By highlighting the realities of food production and creative sustainable solutions farmers are creating, Fresh essentially places the same choice in front of us - be complicit with the systems that are producing our food or work to create a healthier ethical future. Fresh pushes us to consider our food decisions and fight for a system that respects Mother Nature and its people. What would you choose organic or non-organic food??
